[Under Construction]

November 9, 2009

I'm going to be a grandpa in December and my daughter Kelly asked me if I would make a crib.  How could I refuse?  I am using plans for a convertible crib that would become a daybed, and then a full size bed as my granddaughter gets older.  Kelly wants it to be painted white to match other furniture in the nursery, so I chose to make it out of ash.  It is moving along quite well and I expect to be done later this week and start painting the following week.

Here are some pictures of the progress so far.

I started with  1/8th scale model to show Kelly and give her something to look at while I went and did my magic.

The gate actually moves up and down. Yeah, I know, I have way too much time on my hands.

Actually, making the model gave me an opportunity to think about what I was going to need to make the full size parts.

After gluing the slats to the top and bottom rails for the headboard and end pieces I clamped the assemblies together to get the final dimensions for the gate.

Here's some random photos taken while building the crib parts.  Follow this link to see a video of me routing the edges of the slats.
